WPP has signed up to the first worldwide business-led effort of its kind to advocate for – and accelerate – positive change for mental health in the workplace.

Every year, 12 billion workdays are lost to depression and anxiety, and mental health issues are continuing to rise as the pandemic persists. In becoming a founding partner of The Global Business Collaboration for Better Workplace Mental Health, WPP will work with other companies and institutions around the world to share mental health insights and best practice to build out a roadmap for global change.

As part of its commitment to join the movement, WPP has pledged to take a number of practical steps to influence and inspire change in its own organisation and beyond. These include continuing to encourage an open culture around mental health to eliminate any stigma, signposting people to the support and tools they need, and regularly measuring the impact of initiatives to ensure progress is being made.

Mark Read, CEO of WPP, said: “There’s no doubt that the challenges of the pandemic and the impact of social division and injustice have taken their toll on people’s mental and emotional wellbeing over the last year. Making mental wellbeing a priority in the workplace helps to build an inclusive culture that supports our people, and I’m proud that WPP is a founding partner of the Global Business Collaboration for Better Workplace Mental Health.”
