We invest in a wide range of development programmes to help our people respond to a changing world and changing client needs. We have increased our focus on programmes which equip our people to work collaboratively and have doubled down on development opportunities for underrepresented groups. We aim to ensure we are building a robust pipeline of future leaders who bring diverse perspectives to WPP and to our clients.

Leadership development programmes include:

Fast Forward

A three-part series that helps female leaders within the network to accomplish more of what is important to them. Fast Forward addresses the challenges women face in the workplace and provides the tools needed to thrive and succeed. This programme helps delegates focus on what they can control in the months ahead while navigating uncertainty and change.

Fast Forward Accelerate

A four-part series that helps people of colour in the US and UK to broaden and raise aspirations, navigate barriers and explore issues of identity and belonging.

Business Acumen Series

A series of courses for client-facing and business development managers focused on building different skills, from commercial acumen and strategy to negotiation and winning business.

#IamRemarkable

We have partnered with Google to run a series of workshops globally to empower women to speak openly about their accomplishments in the workplace and beyond, to help break modesty norms and glass ceilings.

McKinsey Black Leadership Academy

The Black Leadership Academy helps equip Black leaders with the capabilities, mindsets, behaviours and network needed to achieve their professional aspirations.

Elevate Sponsorship Programme

Our year-long programme for high-potential Black female employees in the US across our agencies with the goal of providing personal and professional development to support and strengthen leadership capabilities.

MAESTRO

A series of immersive and experiential programmes designed to help senior client leaders explore and develop their client leadership potential and shift from transactional service providers to trusted partners.

The Leadership Consortium/HBX Series

The programme combines an interactive leadership curriculum delivered by Harvard Business School faculty with a diverse peer executive community. Leaders emerge as more self-aware executives who lead stronger teams and have broader strategic command of their organisations.

Walk the Talk

Executive women from across WPP are challenged and coached to build a bigger vision and plan that gives renewed energy and focus to their professional and personal lives. With a focus on aligning goals and values, the format is highly experiential, with self-reflection, networking, sharing and practical guidance to empower our leaders to pay it forward.

Technology

WPP is partnering with The University of Oxford to deliver courses in data and artificial intelligence (AI) for client leaders, practitioners, and WPP executives. The Diploma is all about helping our leaders grapple with today's digital challenges, finding new opportunities to create value with data and AI, and, ultimately, accelerating the digital transformation of our organisation.

Learning and enablement is also a central tenet of our major strategic partnerships with the likes of Microsoft, Adobe, Salesforce, Amazon and Google.

We work with these technology partners to develop learning and accreditation programmes that are either bespoke to WPP or to secure unique training benefits for our people, globally.

During 2020, we worked with partners to shift many training and certification programs from in-person formats to virtual settings. We’ve seen incredible progress across our partners, gaining more than 21,000 accreditation and certifications.

In 2021 we have leveraged our strategic partner ecosystem to develop training programmes, exclusively for WPP. Most notably the WPP x Amazon ecommerce bootcamp, open to all employees globally over an 8-week timeframe, saw 2,900 participants across the network and resulted in 660 certifications. Last month we launched WPP’s first training academy with TikTok, with more than 4,300 participants badged across the network.
