WPP has announced “Making Space” – a new initiative focused on giving people space to look after their wellbeing and inspire creativity.
Mark Read, WPP’s CEO, said: “Our people have consistently delivered great work for our clients and continued to win new business, helping us grow at the fastest rate in our history. Given the exceptional circumstances they’ve faced, it’s a truly extraordinary achievement. However, while we’ve shown that brilliant minds can excel in challenging conditions, we recognise they shouldn’t have to do that all the time.”
That’s why we’re kicking off Making Space with a global, company-wide break from Friday 8th July to Monday 11th July, giving everyone across WPP the space to recharge and refresh.
This follows last year’s launch of WPP’s Mental Health Allies programme, in partnership with Mental Health at Work and in response to the effects of the pandemic and injustices around the world on people’s wellbeing. It aims to encourage open conversations about mental health in the workplace and offer support to those who need it. To date, more than 500 leaders, People team colleagues and employees across the UK and US have received mental health training, with plans to expand into other markets. We also expanded our Employee Assistance Programme to everyone worldwide, offering free, confidential counselling 24/7.
Following the company-wide break in July, WPP is making space for inspiration – to celebrate our diverse communities, our work and our creativity – with a global series of events, experiences and performances across our campuses and offices, designed for our people.
Jennifer Remling, WPP’s CPO, said: “The past couple of years have been tough on us all and I’m so proud of the amazing work our people deliver day in, day out. We launched Making Space to give everyone a chance to reset and as part of our ambition to unleash the creative potential in every person at WPP. I’m excited to see this come to life as we continue to make space for our people to grow, learn and connect with one another in inspiring environments”.
This is just the beginning of our Making Space initiative so look out for more in the coming months.
