Wunderman Thompson: Degree Inclusive

Across the beauty and personal care industry, there are currently no deodorant products that are suitable for people with upper extremity disabilities or visual impairment. Twisting a deodorant cap, turning a stick or pushing down on a spray button can be a real challenge for people with limited arm mobility.

Driven by a mission to make deodorant application more accessible, Degree Deodorant partnered with Wunderman Thompson and SOUR, alongside occupational therapists, engineers, consultants and people living with disabilities across the globe, to create a prototype for Degree Inclusive.

Degree Inclusive aims to inspire confidence in everyone to be active, believing no one should be held back from breaking a sweat and enjoying the transformative benefits of movement. Degree Inclusive has been designed with the following revolutionary features:

• A hooked design for one-handed usage
• Magnetic closures that make it easier for users with limited grip and/or vision impairment to take the cap off and put it back on
• Enhanced grip placement for easier application for users with limited grip
• A braille label with instructions for users with a visual impairment
• A larger roll-on applicator to reach more surface area per swipe

The team at Wunderman Thompson Argentina – who conceived the original prototype – also created the launch campaign which demonstrates how an everyday utility product like deodorant can revolutionise movement for disabled people.

The original prototype is now in further development to create customisable solutions for particular mobility and dexterity needs.

By developing a deodorant serving the needs of those with visual impairments and upper limb disabilities, Degree continues to advance its ongoing commitment to provide inclusive products for everyone – whoever you are and however you move.
