WPP at Super Bowl LIII

A shop window for WPP’s world-class creativity

The Super Bowl draws an audience of around 111 million global viewers so it’s little surprise that it’s seen as the world’s biggest single annual showcase for great TV work.

The Big Game acts as a shop window for our creativity and as this year’s game saw the New England Patriots triumph over Los Angeles Rams for their sixth Super Bowl victory, viewers were treated to six new WPP ads for our clients.

Bumble

An all-female team from VMLY&R created this spot for the progressive dating app, starring Bumble’s new global advisor Serena Williams.

Pringles

Grey’s poignant Sad Device spot encourages us to think about voice assistants’ feelings – but only after flavour stacking.

Colgate

Colgate gets extremely up close and personal with actor Luke Wilson in a spot conceived by Red Fuse.

Budweiser

Using their Super Bowl spot to highlight their commitment to sustainable energy, Budweiser’s ad, created by DAVID, combines classic Americana with a Bob Dylan soundtrack and a thoroughly modern message.

Devour

Kraft-Heinz’s frozen food brand and DAVID had to create two versions of their ad – the full-length 60-second version was too risqué for the Super Bowl so instead a 30-second censored version aired during the third quarter of the Big Game.

Burger King

For Burger King’s first Super Bowl commercial in more than a decade, DAVID put together a cleverly simple 45-second spot featuring Andy Warhol eating a Whopper. The archival footage was captured as part of filmmaker Jørgen Leth’s 1982 film 66 Scenes of America.
