Based on the insight that misinformation is typically propagated through messaging apps and can be a catalyst for increased pressure on NHS/government services, Wavemaker’s innovation team led on the design and creation of a new Coronavirus Information Service on WhatsApp for Public Health England (PHE).

Essentially an accessible public information service, PHE uses the same WhatsApp interface to engage effectively with the public by reducing the flow of misinformation and scaling the response to citizens while relieving pressure overwhelming other services.

The opt-in automated chatbot service provides the British public with official information from GOV.UK and the NHS on coronavirus. Topics include prevention and symptoms, the latest number of cases in the UK, advice on staying at home, travel guidance and myth-busting.
