Global internet ad spend hit $99 billion in 2012
Internet advertising hit $99 billion in 2012, a 16.2% increase compared to the previous year, according to a new report from GroupM. The report said advertising on the web now accounts for 19.5% of all global measured advertising expenditures, and predicts digital spend will exceed $113 billion in 2013.
WPP on top at Dubai Lynx Awards 2013
WPP topped the points tally at this year’s Dubai Lynx Awards, recording almost twice the number of points of its nearest competitor. Among the WPP winners was Y&R Dubai, named Agency of the Year for the third year running. Ogilvy Dubai and JWT Cairo were runners up. WPP agencies won 12 of the 26 Gold Lynx awarded and two Grand Prix.
Investment in SFX strengthens content capabilities
WPP has made a strategic investment in SFX Entertainment, the leading global platform for electronic dance music (EDM) events. WPP Chief Executive Sir Martin Sorrell said: “The challenge of navigating through digital and social media is daunting for clients and we believe this partnership can further develop WPP’s content capabilities, particularly in new media in the youth consumer segment.”

TNS opens for business in Myanmar
TNS has received a licence to operate in Myanmar (Burma) and opened its first office in Yangon. TNS has been helping clients to build an understanding of the market since sanctions lifted in 2012, and is the first international consumer insights consultancy to secure a licence to conduct business in the country.

XM Asia, a division of JWT, has acquired a majority stake in Thomas Idea, a leading digital marketing agency in Thailand. Founded in 1995 in Bangkok, Thomas Idea’s services include online strategy consulting, website design and development, digital marketing and applications design.
