Tech companies lead first US BrandZ ranking
WPP and Kantar Millward Brown have published the inaugural BrandZ™ Top 100 Most Valuable US Brands ranking. Google tops the list with a brand value of $286 billion, with the remaining top five spots taken up by Apple, Amazon, Microsoft and Facebook. The collective US top 100 brand value was $3.16 trillion, with the top 10 brands accounting for half of the total.

Global ad investment to grow 4.3% in 2018
According to GroupM’s updated global ad investment forecasts for 2017 and 2018, there will be increase in ad spend of 3.1% this year and 4.3% ($23 billion) in 2018. GroupM points to global GDP growth with rising consumer demand, fixed investment, industrial production and exports as contributors to its more positive outlook for 2018.

Unilever selects Mindshare for global comms planning
Mindshare has been appointed to handle Unilever’s global communications planning. A Unilever spokesman said: “We will be partnering globally for communication planning with Mindshare to increase our effectiveness and deliver greater global-to-local relevance, future-proofing our marketing communication in a rapidly changing media landscape.”

MediaCom crowned Network of the Year
MediaCom has been named as Campaign’s Media Network of the Year 2017. The title comes after a successful 12 months in which MediaCom won new business worth $4 billion. The award is MediaCom’s third network crown of 2017, having been named Agency Network of the Year at both the Festival of Media Global Awards and the M&M Global Awards.

Richard Attias & Associates accelerates global growth
In a move aimed at expanding its core business, Richard Attias & Associates has reinforced its leadership team with the appointment of two key executives. Panos Tzivanidis, the former Director of Events for the International Olympic Committee, will serve as CEO while Maureen Mitchell, the former Director of Scheduling and Operations for the Office of House Speaker Paul D. Ryan, will serve as Chief of Staff.

J. Walter Thompson London launches Female Tribes consultancy
FT Consulting, launched by J Walter Thompson London, is an industry-first consultancy created to help businesses harness “Female Business Potential”. It will use the insights from the global Female Tribes Women’s Index study (8,000 women in 19 countries) to help clients redesign their business through a female lens by offering a complete set of bespoke consultancy products and services.

Projections show that in 2025, online FMCG will be a $170 billion business with a 10% market share.
