STW Group and WPP officially join to create WPP AUNZ
Australasia’s leading marketing content and communications group will officially merge with the Australian and New Zealand businesses of WPP following STW shareholder approval at an Extraordinary General Meeting. STW shareholders voted in favour of all resolutions associated with the transaction, which will see WPP become the majority shareholder of STW, and STW become the primary vehicle for WPP in Australia and New Zealand. The combined entity will be known as WPP AUNZ, and will be the largest communications services parent company in the region with 90+ businesses, more than 5,500 people and combined revenues of more than A$850m.
Nicole Seligman appointed Senior Independent Director of WPP
The Board of WPP has appointed Nicole Seligman as its Senior Independent Director. Ms Seligman became a Non-Executive Director of WPP in January 2014. WPP Chairman Roberto Quarta said: “Both the WPP Board and the Company are privileged to have the services of Nicole Seligman. Nicole has proved to be an exemplary Non-Executive Director. She is insightful, thoughtful and extremely accomplished, as well as being an experienced business executive, who brings wisdom, sound judgement and visionary insight to the Board.”
Tencent remains China’s most valuable brand
The total value of the
BrandZ™ Top 100 Most Valuable Chinese Brands
has risen 13% to $525.6bn in the last year despite China’s slowing economic growth, according to the sixth annual ranking announced by WPP and Millward Brown. Tencent remains China’s most valuable brand, growing its brand value 24% to $82.1bn. The second and third most valuable brands are China Mobile and Alibaba. For the first time, market-driven brands – those that are owned by entrepreneurial companies – contribute more than half (51%) of the value of the China Top 100.
Mindshare named APAC Agency Network of the Year
The Festival of Media Asia Pacific Awards 2016 saw Mindshare named Agency Network of the Year. The agency won 12 awards across multiple categories, markets and clients in the regional competition, and took home the most gold trophies on the night. Mindshare India was named Agency of the Year.
WPP acquires healthcare media specialist CMI
Communications Media Inc., one of the largest healthcare media agencies in the US, has been acquired by WPP. CMI’s clients include 10 of the top 20 pharmaceutical advertisers in the United States and overall it represents 340 brands among 51 clients. Founded in 1989, CMI employs more than 210 people and is based in King of Prussia, PA, with offices in New York, Philadelphia, and Pennsauken, NJ.
Y&R launches content production studios across Latin America
David Sable, Global CEO of Y&R, and John Lynn, CEO of Y&R Latin America, have announced that Y&R is launching a content production capability in Latin America to serve clients in the region, as well as the US and EMEA. Sybil Company will head the offering for Latin America as Director Content Production Studios Latam. The new content production operation will be headquartered at Y&R Miami.
Burson-Marsteller introduces Burson-Marsteller Advantage Women
Global strategic communications and public relations firm Burson-Marsteller has announced a new offering focused on helping organizations take full advantage of the benefits associated with closing the gender gap and creating more opportunities for women to rise as leaders. Burson-Marsteller Advantage Women builds on increasing demand from current and prospective clients to develop powerful communications strategies to promote the value of gender balance in the workplace.
Sudler & Hennessey acquires US based Viscira
Global healthcare communications network, Sudler & Hennessey, has acquired Viscira, a leader in digital marketing in the healthcare industry. Viscira’s clients include 17 of the world’s top 25 pharmaceutical companies comprising over 135 unique brands. Founded in 2007, Viscira develops interactive, digital marketing programs for clients in the pharmaceutical and life sciences industry. It employs over 100 people and is based in San Francisco, with offices New York and London.

to handle its media buying and planning.
Caterpillar appoints AKQA
to collaborate on its global brand and business transformation initiatives.
Cohn & Wolfe appoints Paul Baeyaert
as Managing Director, Paris.
Emir Shafri named Creative Director
of Y&R Malaysia.
VML London promotes Chris Wood
to Executive Director and Amanda Farmer to Managing Director.
J. Walter Thompson appoints Spence Kramer
CEO of its Atlanta operations. Kramer will report to Stefano Zunino, CEO of the Americas.
