Warc names WPP as the world’s best parent company
For the second consecutive year, WPP has topped the Warc 100 annual ranking of the world’s best campaigns and companies. The ranking reflects the performance of campaigns and agencies in 79 effectiveness and marketing excellence competitions across the world, all of which require entrants to show the business impact of their work. WPP emerged as the “world’s best holding company”, based on the combined points total of all agencies and networks within the different parent groups.
New CEO at J. Walter Thompson Company
Tamara Ingram has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of J. Walter Thompson Company, replacing Gustavo Martinez. Ingram was named WPP’s Chief Client Team Officer in 2015, overseeing the Group’s 45 global account teams, representing one-third of the Group’s $20 billion of revenues with over 38,000 employees working on these clients. Prior to that, Ingram was President and Chief Executive Officer of Team P&G, a position she held from 2007. George Rogers succeeds Ingram as WPP’s Chief Client Team Officer, in addition to his current duties as WPP’s Global Business Development Director.
WPP announces full-year results for 2015
WPP’s 30th year broke records once again as billings, revenues and profit all climbed to new heights in 2015. The Group’s full-year results revealed that reported billings increased by 3.1% to £47.632 billion, reported revenue was up 6.1% at £12.235 billion, and headline profit before tax was £1.622 billion, up 7.3%.
New leadership team announced at Mindshare North America
Mindshare has announced a new leadership team for North America, covering business in the United States and Canada. Ernie Simon has been named CEO for Mindshare North America, while Adam Gerhart is named CEO for the US and Cindy Gustafson Chief Strategy Officer for the US.
AKQA acquires majority stake in digital agency
AKQA has taken a majority stake in the holding company of digital agency Potato, which specialises in designing and building complex, secure and scalable web applications. Potato, whose clients include Google and Canon, employs around 100 people and is headquartered in London, with an office in Bristol and a presence in San Francisco.
MediaCom unveils cultural connections partnership
The Hofstede Centre, the premier global centre for cross-cultural research, has formed a long-term partnership with MediaCom. The partnership will see MediaCom and The Hofstede Centre working together to update the ground-breaking research carried out by renowned Dutch social psychologist and the father of scientific cross-cultural analysis, Dr Geert Hofstede. It will be the largest study of its kind, surveying over 60,000 consumers across 52 countries in partnership with Lightspeed GMI, part of Kantar Worldwide.
Ogilvy Pride launches in Hong Kong
Ogilvy & Mather has launched a new LGBT employee network in Hong Kong. Ogilvy Pride aims to champion diversity in the workplace, in addition to being a client-facing group of consultants to help brands understand and tap into LGBT audiences in the region. Adam O’Conor, Chief Executive Officer, Ogilvy & Mather Hong Kong, said: “We want to celebrate diversity in the workplace, particularly at a time we are seeing such a shift in social attitudes towards the LGBT community.”
WPP establishes Africa Academy
WPP has announced the establishment of the Africa Academy in Johannesburg. The Africa Academy is a talent development initiative enabling WPP companies across Africa to access high quality, relevant and cost-effective training programmes for its staff. To deliver this programme, which has been created in close collaboration with its agencies in the region, WPP is partnering with the Red & Yellow School of Logic and Magic in South Africa.
Unilever launches trading desk with Mindshare
In partnership with Mindshare, Unilever has launched its proprietary programmatic trading desk (“Ultra”) in Singapore. Gowthaman Ragothaman, Chief Operating Officer, Asia Pacific at Mindshare, said: "Ultra is unique. It is a built-for-purpose programmatic unit with agile planning at its core.”
The iconic cruise company Cunard selects Burson-Marsteller
as its brand communications partner in China.
Nippon Paint appoints Mindshare Malaysia
to handle all of its digital and creative production, a month after it took on its media planning and buying business.
MEC makes changes to its global management team
as Stuart Bowden is named Global Chief Strategy Officer and Pele Cortizo-Burgess is appointed as Global Chief Creative Officer.
WPP has appointed Juliana Yeh
as Head of Corporate Communications, WPP Asia Pacific.
Cohn & Wolfe promotes Rebecca Grant
to UK Managing Director.
Geometry Global appoints Jim Carlton
as North American COO.
PSB named Best International Firm
at the 2016 Reed Awards.
Agnieszka Kosik, CEO of MediaCom Poland
named Business Woman of the Year.
