Sudler New York and POSSIBLE Mobile announce Apple collaboration
4 May, 2015
— Sudler & Hennessey, one of the best regarded global healthcare communications companies, is pleased to announce an important collaboration with POSSIBLE Mobile on Apple’s new ResearchKit, which capitalizes on the extensive iPhone user base to help recruit people for medical studies. While it can take a year to recruit thousands of patients for a clinical trial, the ResearchKit has the ability to recruit within just days.
Both companies will collaborate on the development of ResearchKit apps to enable researchers to expand their clinical trials and monitor large patient populations. POSSIBLE Mobile’s team of development experts is responsible for technical evaluations and technical work, while Sudler’s team of pharma experts will determine the healthcare strategy. The framework allows developers to take advantage of the iPhone’s various sensors to help monitor activity levels or collect information.
ResearchKit is an open source framework, introduced by Apple, that allows researchers and developers to create powerful apps for medical research, easily create visual consent flows, perform real-time dynamic active tasks and produce surveys using a variety of customizable modules that can be expanded and shared with the community. ResearchKit works seamlessly with HealthKit, allowing researchers to access even more relevant data for their studies, such as daily step counts, calorie use and heart rate.
Several of the initial apps using the ResearchKit framework are also open source and ready for use as sample code or to bootstrap an individual project. These apps are being used now to collect data to study a variety of conditions including diabetes, asthma, Parkinson's disease and breast cancer. These apps all use the ResearchKit AppCore library, designed to make it easy to customize a clinical study.
David Cherry, Chief Digital Officer at Sudler & Hennessey, says: “Sudler is enormously excited to work with POSSIBLE Mobile to unlock the potential that ResearchKit provides for our clients, and to empower patients to participate remotely and immediately in large-scale studies that will ultimately improve healthcare delivery across a range of conditions.”
Ben Reubenstein, CEO at POSSIBLE Mobile, says: “POSSIBLE Mobile has a proven track record of delivering technical solutions for top apps on App Store. Combining our technical know-how with Sudler’s healthcare expertise will make our team the choice for ResearchKit & HealthKit solutions.”
