VML promotes Amy Winger to chief strategy officer

Agency names first CSO, continues growth of its strategic planning offering

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — VML, a leading global marketing agency, today announced the appointment of Amy Winger to chief strategy officer. The role is a first for the agency.

As VML’s chief strategy officer, Winger will lead and oversee the continued growth of strategic planning across the agency.

“Amy’s exceptional leadership in evolving VML’s strategic planning offering has been a driving factor in our continued success. Our role with clients has grown largely because we have a strong strategic perspective that truly impacts our clients’ business,” said Jon Cook, CEO and president at VML. “As CSO, she’ll continue providing the leadership that has marked so many important strategic planning milestones for VML.”

The strategic planning practice has two disciplines: Enterprise vision and road mapping, with transformation as the focus, and brand engagement planning, with core consumer needs as the focus.

“Strategic planning in a digital context is an area where inventive thinkers and agencies have significant opportunity to develop strategies and plans that make a lasting difference for brands,” Winger said. “We plan to create an open-source model that places high value on true insights, facilitated collaboration and effectiveness.”

Winger was previously executive director of strategic planning at VML. With nearly 20 years of marketing experience, Winger has a diverse marketing and business background, ranging from stints at Silicon Alley start-ups to working with Kashi, where she has been core to re-energizing and reestablishing that brand’s digital strategy and presence.

Winger will report to Cook. Her role as chief strategy officer is effective immediately.
