GroupM Entertainment connects with Hulu to produce new docu-series

6 February, 2014

“Hulu Spotlight” Series Will Showcase Famed Action Sports High School in Oregon

NEW YORK — GroupM Entertainment today announced a deal with Hulu to co-produce an exciting episodic series entitled My Side of the Sky, created by documentary filmmaker Sarah Feeley, which will debut as a “Hulu Spotlight” series this winter.

“We’re particularly excited about this project,” said Peter Tortorici, President of GroupM Entertainment Global. “This series is about vibrant, interesting young student athletes who are putting it all on the line to get to the next level of achievement in the highly competitive world of action sports. It delivers a message that many of our clients can embrace.”

Under the terms of the deal, GroupM Entertainment will provide financial investment in My Side of the Sky and will executive produce with Feeley, producer Jesse Albert, and Hulu. In addition to financing, GME will lend creative and strategic support to the project, helping the series reach and appeal to audiences worldwide.

“My Side of the Sky demonstrates an innovative shift in the way great ideas can be brought to life through relationships with the media world,” said Bryan Thoensen, head of brand content at Hulu, “GroupM Entertainment played a pivotal role in realizing a collective vision, and we’re thrilled to be able to share the story of Windells Academy with audiences everywhere.”

My Side of the Sky is a character-driven, nonfiction television series that tells the real life stories of the students, faculty and coaches of Mt. Hood, Oregon-based Windells Academy, a specialized high school that trains—and educates—the next generation of Olympic and X Games snowboard, ski and skate stars to excel both in competitive action sports, and in the classroom. Windells is the premier year-round training facility for the action sports community. Pro snowboarders Shaun White, Louis Vito, Kelly Clark, Kevin Pearce and Hannah Teter, have all come through Windells, as well as Olympic skiers Nick Goepper, ABM, and Maggie Voisin.

Series under the “Hulu Spotlight” banner represent original programming created in partnership with advertisers to provide deeper, more integrated opportunities for brands. Six half-hour episodes of this “Hulu Spotlight” began production in September and will premiere on Hulu and Hulu Plus in February 2014, with new episodes released weekly.
