Ogilvy PR Singapore gets onboard with SilkAir

SINGAPORE — SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, has appointed Ogilvy Public Relations Singapore as its communications and public relations agency in Singapore and SilkAir’s regional key markets for a one-year period.

The appointment, which commenced as of 1 August 2013, was made after a competitive pitch, with Ogilvy PR’s remit covering corporate branding and promotional support around SilkAir’s 25th Anniversary celebrations in 2014. This is in line with their historic delivery of up to 68 new Boeing 737-800 aircrafts – the biggest aircraft order in SilkAir’s history.

SilkAir’s Chief Executive, Leslie Thng, said: “2014 is set to be a milestone year for our airline. With our 25th Anniversary celebrations coupled with the upcoming delivery of our new Boeing fleet, we’re looking forward to a truly exciting time for the company. About SilkAir
As the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, SilkAir operates the Singapore Airlines Group's narrowbody fleet and extends the Group network by seeding and developing new, exciting destinations in Asia Pacific.

The airline took to the skies in February 1989 as Tradewinds the Airline, before evolving into SilkAir in 1992. In its early days, the airline catered to passengers holidaying in exotic destinations in the region, including Phuket and Tioman. As the carrier developed, regional business destinations such as Phnom Penh, Yangon and Kuala Lumpur were added.

Today, the full service airline operates more than 300 weekly flights to 44 destinations in 12 countries. Recent additions to the network include Hanoi (June 2012), Visakhapatnam (October 2012), Semarang (July 2013) and Makassar (August 2013). The airline currently has a fleet of 23 Airbus aircraft, comprising 6 A319s and 17 A320s. In August 2012, the airline announced the largest order in its history of up to 68 Boeing 737 aircraft, with firm orders comprising 23 Boeing 737-800s and 31 Boeing 737 MAX 8s.
