City of Chengdu appoints Ogilvy PR for FORTUNE Global Forum support

BEIJING — Following a competitive bid, the Press Office of the Chengdu Municipal Government has appointed Ogilvy Public Relations/Beijing to design and manage its media outreach strategy and program during the FORTUNE Global Forum which opens today in the western city of Chengdu, China. The three-day “China’s New Future”-themed event will bring together more than 600 world leaders and heads of global business – chairmen, presidents and CEOs of the world’s largest companies – to debate and discuss the economic growth of China’s western region and evolution of China’s role in international commerce.

In recent years Ogilvy PR and Chengdu have enjoyed a fruitful partnership. Since 2010 the agency’s award-winning “Pambassadors” and “Panda Awareness Week” campaigns to brand the city of Chengdu have lifted its image abroad and catapulted the Chinese city onto the international radar for tourism and foreign direct investment. Ogilvy PR was also selected for this assignment because of the firm's successful delivery of large scale conferences, strong understanding of the media landscape and recognized expertise in managing prominent, large scale events in China.
As the engine of western China, Chengdu is renowned for its economic growth, spirit of innovation, modern and efficient local government, unique culture and cuisine and wealth of experience in hosting international events and conferences. As of March this year, 238 FORTUNE 500 companies had established business operations in the city.
