Unique leadership institute to build capacity for practitioners and raise the value and awareness of marketing and communications among business leaders in the region

BEIJING — A group of six leading marketing and communications firms and top experts announced the launch of the Burson-Marsteller Leadership Institute (BMLI) today. BMLI is a unique partnership united to build leadership capacity for communications practitioners and raise the value and awareness of marketing and communications among business leaders.

Partners include leading public relations and communications firm Burson-Marsteller; strategic corporate communications advisory firm Wolf Group Asia; world-leading marketing and communications company Y&R; research firm Penn Schoen Berland (PSB); global branding giant Landor Associates; and creative communications and leadership training company Acewood.

“We are excited to launch this unique offering together with our key partners in China,” said Chris Deri, CEO of Burson-Marsteller China. “BMLI convenes some of the greatest firms and thinkers in the industry to help educate the region’s decision makers on the importance of marketing and communications as an industry. Nothing is more critical for today’s leaders than understanding and practicing excellent communications. BMLI is also designed to respond to China’s unique market needs by providing skills development for communications practitioners.”

“There really is nothing else in China or the Asia Pacific region that brings together such a wide range of seasoned professionals to deliver cross-disciplinary marketing communications expertise,” said David Wolf, president and CEO of Wolf Group Asia, founding partner of BMLI. “I trust that clients and executives will see the value this unique collaboration can bring to their spokespersons, communications teams and overall business performance.”

"Landor is honored to be participating with such a prestigious group of experts in teaching one of our core beliefs, that successful brands are the result of multi-disciplinary, holistic thinking,” says Henry Chan, president Greater China for Landor Associates.

Faculty members will offer a wide range of multi-disciplinary trainings in seven core specialty areas: Branding, Creativity and Perception; Building Bridges; Digital and Social Media; Engaging the Government; Executive Offerings; Public Relations Skills, Principles and Practices; and Research. In addition to trainings, BMLI will develop and utilize research designed to provide a deeper understanding of the role communications can and should play in China and globally.

The BMLI website, www.bmleadershipinstitute.com, houses introductory information on the initiative, including course offerings and faculty biographies. Currently, over 30 BMLI faculty members offer over 20 courses under the seven core specialty areas, and most are available in English and Chinese. Initiated and based in China with faculty members located outside the country, BMLI course offerings are available in various markets around the world.
