GroupM Agency Chosen to Handle Broadcast Planning and Buying Responsibilities

NEW YORK — Mindshare, the global media services network, has been awarded media responsibilities for RAC (Rent-A-Center) in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, it was announced today.

The assignment includes media planning and buying responsibilities for traditional broadcast TV and radio, said Antony Young, CEO of Mindshare North America.

Young added that Mindshare won the business following a four-month review that included the incumbent and competing agencies.

This new partnership includes the involvement of GroupM company tmex, who will work with Mindshare to provide RAC with superior media quality and accountability in corporate trade transactions.

Rent-A-Center offers customers name-brand furniture, electronics, appliances and computers through flexible rental purchase agreements. Last year the company reported annual revenues of more than $3 billion.

“We chose Mindshare because the agency displayed a superior ability to develop and execute a full-service broadcast media strategy that will create increased awareness for our brand,” said Ann Davids, SVP and Chief Marketing Officer for Rent-A-Center. “We look forward to working with our new business partner to help us reach our marketplace goals.”

The assignment will be handled by Mindshare’s New York office, which will begin work on the account immediately.

Mindshare is one of four global WPP media and marketing agency networks within GroupM, along with Maxus, MEC, and MediaCom.

“We’re very excited that RAC has chosen us as its business partner,” said Young. “We look forward to planning and implementing media buying strategies that will propel the brand further.”
