Agency Network Strengthened As Rapid Growth Continues

NEW YORK — Maxus, the fastest-growing media services agency in the world (RECMA), is opening new offices in Los Angeles, Toronto and Mexico City to strengthen its network for existing clients and to service a wave of new account wins.

“This is an exciting time for Maxus,” Global CEO Kelly Clark said. “We’re really pleased to be expanding our global network despite the challenging economic climate.”

Maxus is one of four global WPP media and marketing agency networks within GroupM, along with MEC, MediaCom, and Mindshare. In July, it was named the fastest-growing media services agency in the world by RECMA, the independent organization that measures media agency sector operations.

The new Los Angeles office is being established to service primarily the Universal Studios portion of the NBCUniversal account, which Maxus was awarded in July, as well as NBCU’s Focus Features division and Video on Demand offering.

The agency plans to have the new agency up and running with 20 staff members by October 1, North America CEO Louis Jones said. The agency’s New York operation will assist in servicing the account and is expected to add 20 media professionals to its existing team.

Jones said Pamela Haupert Sullivan has been named the new Managing Director of the Los Angeles office, joining from DDB Entertainment. At DDB she oversaw the Universal Pictures, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios City Walk Hollywood accounts.

In Toronto, Maxus has named media agency executive Ann Stewart as President, Maxus Canada. Stewart brings over 25 years of diverse media experience to her new role and joins Maxus from Excelerator Media, a Toronto-based GroupM agency where she led a number of key GroupM client relationships in Canada.

Jones said the investment in the Toronto office was part of the agency’s long-term strategy to expand its global footprint, adding that the addition of several new accounts in the fourth quarter—including NBCUniversal—had accelerated the plan. He said the office would initially be staffed by 35 people and will be fully operational by October 1.

In Mexico City, Maxus has named Hugo Gomez as CEO of Maxus Mexico, which is already working for clients including Astra Zeneca, UPS and Mazda.

“Mexico is an extremely important market for us as we further develop our global network,” said Clark. “It’s the gateway to Latin America for many marketers, and it’s a priority market for many of our global clients. We are delighted that someone with Hugo’s experience has agreed to lead Maxus in Mexico, and this signals our intent to invest further in Latin America.”

Gomez comes to Maxus from GroupM sister agency Mindshare Mexico, where he was Chief Operating Officer. He started his career with McCann Erickson Mexico and later worked with Young & Rubicam, JWT and DDB.

“These investments demonstrate our commitment to the Maxus network,” said GroupM Global CEO Irwin Gotlieb. “The Maxus team has a lot of energy and momentum, and we will provide the all the support and resource they need to keep growing and delivering for clients.”
