GCI Health adds Kim Sammons to lead national patient advocacy efforts

15 November, 2011

NEW YORK — GCI Health, a leading healthcare public relations agency, today, announced the appointment of Kim Sammons to senior vice president and deputy director of the Atlanta office. In addition to supporting the growing Atlanta office, Sammons will focus on expanding GCI Health’s capabilities to support the evolving role and needs of patient advocates, including traditional and online influencers.

Sammons has more than 15 years of agency and nonprofit experience, as well as demonstrated success in public health initiatives and strategic alliances. She has overseen high-profile campaigns for a range of nonprofit and public health clients including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, American College of Rheumatology and The Clean Air Campaign. Sammons expanded her deep advocacy experience at organizations such as the Arthritis Foundation where she directed brand management and achieved the highest volume media coverage to date, including a premiere media partnership with Prevention magazine.

“As the healthcare industry undergoes significant changes, our agency is attuned to the evolving needs of patients and the pivotal role that advocates play in ensuring the highest quality care,” said Wendy Lund, CEO, GCI Health. “At GCI Health, we are personally and professionally passionate about partnering with and supporting third parties, and we are delighted to have such an accomplished advocacy expert on board.”

Most recently, Sammons served as vice president for the cause alliance firm, For Momentum. In this role, she led corporate sponsor summits designed to expand and create partnerships between patient advocacy groups and for-profit organizations. In addition, she helped clients define cause alliance strategies, messaging and materials to effectively sell to and work with for-profit organizations.

“Today’s marketplace demands a broader level of communication strategy, incorporating the concept of public health into many marketing facets,” said Sammons. “It’s time to move beyond one product, one person, one opportunity, and to think holistically about the system and the public if we want to truly change the conversation around health. Patient advocacy groups are a critical part of making this change possible.”
