The Jupiter Drawing Room appoints Jonathan Beggs as Creative Director
3 March, 2011
— The Jupiter Drawing Room (Cape Town) recently appointed Jonathan Beggs as Creative Director.
“He has an immaculate reputation and we are extremely excited that he is now part of our team” says The Jupiter Drawing Room (Cape Town), Executive Creative Director, Ross Chowles. “His wealth of knowledge and experience has quickly become one of our prized assets.”
Beggs holds a degree in Law and English obtained at University of Kwa-Zulu Natal. After a few years of travelling, he returned to SA to study at the Red and Yellow School. Prior to joining Jupiter Cape Town, he worked at Ogilvy Johannesburg for a decade, where he was a creative director and board member.
He has produced some of the best work the advertising industry has seen - which has earned him the ranking as one the most awarded creatives in the country. One look at his portfolio and you would understand why. It boasts an impressive list of power brands such as DStv, Castle Lager, Coca-Cola, SuperSport, BP, KFC and Cadbury, to mention a few. He has created some famous campaigns and his work has won numerous local and international awards. Beggs has also served as a judge for the Loerie Awards for the past five years.
“I've been fortunate to have worked on an amazing array of brands. My career has seen me writing speeches for government ministers - but on the upside, I've also won an International “Best of Category Gastro-Intestinal” for an indigestion remedy. It's been amazing.”
Beggs highlights the “Channel O “Young Gifted and Black” campaign as one of the most notable achievements in his advertising career. “We created a campaign that captured the zeitgeist, became a movement and received an integrated Loerie Grand Prix. What was most inspiring was that it was collaboration with great musical artists and it also showcased the young talent in the creative department. Coke's “Brrr” and the BP “Nation United” were other campaigns that I am very proud to have been a part of.”
Beggs is excited to be part of The Jupiter Drawing Room (Cape Town).
“Jupiter is structured in a client-centric, media neutral way – making it a lot easier for us to manage ideas and also choose the most appropriate channels and solutions.” Says Beggs “Brands now have to be more relevant and useful, and work has to be faster, simpler and more coherent across an increasingly complicated spectrum of media.”
“The culture at Jupiter Cape is organic and collaborative. It's one of a handful of South African agencies that actually has a deeply rooted ethos and culture. You can feel it the moment you walk in. It's also a creatively driven agency that has created some of the bravest, most breakthrough work in South Africa over the last decade,”
“This agency has managed to build an enviable client base not by convenient international affiliations, but by being hungrily entrepreneurial, bringing in new business and consistently producing engaging and effective work.”
When he is not doing advertising, Beggs spends time with his all-consuming hobby: As DJ Badly, drummer for The Stokies, lyricist, composer, journalist and music glutton, he has managed to make a big name for himself within his immediate family circle. Issued by:
