Christine Jones Appointed CEO and Market Leader for Burson-Marsteller Australia

13 December, 2011

SYDNEY — Burson-Marsteller today announced the appointment of Christine Jones as Chief Executive Officer and Market Leader of Burson-Marsteller Australia, succeeding Brian West, who will be departing the firm at the end of December. Jones will take on the role in March, 2012 and will continue to report to Bob Pickard, President and CEO of Burson-Marsteller Asia-Pacific. She will remain on the global and regional healthcare leadership teams.

“I am delighted that Christine will be leading our business in Australia through the next phase of its growth,” Pickard said. “She has an outstanding track record in building business and inspiring teams to succeed with her infectious energy and focus on results.”

Jones has 25+ years’ experience working in her native Australia, Europe and Asia. A recognized expert in pharmaceuticals and issues and crisis management, Jones has successfully managed businesses through periods of economic expansion and recession. Jones previously worked with Burson-Marsteller as Market Leader for Singapore from 2004 to 2007. She re-joined Burson-Marsteller in July 2010 following three years at Roche Pharmaceuticals’ head office in Switzerland where she was Global Head of Oncology Communications.

“I am excited to be taking over the reins at Burson-Marsteller Australia. It’s a challenging and vibrant market that has experienced high fragmentation over the last decade and an explosion of boutique firms. Despite these changes, Burson-Marsteller has remained a firm known for senior strategic counsel, crisis communications and brand positioning,” Jones said. “I look forward to working with the new management team to continue this good work while refreshing our brand and service offering to ensure we remain a competitive, go-to firm.”

Prior to Roche and Burson-Marsteller, Jones worked with Edelman/Rowland Company (acquired by Edelman) for 14 years including assignments in London, Australia and Singapore where she established the firm’s healthcare capability in Australia and Asia-Pacific (APAC).

Since 2010, Jones has been Regional Managing Director for Business Development across Asia-Pacific. Over the last 18 months, Burson-Marsteller Asia-Pacific has experienced its fastest period of growth chalking up significant new business wins across the region including known Western multinational and rising Asian brands.
