Mindshare wins USD $2.5 billion L’Oreal business in China

27 October, 2010

CHINA — After three months of fierce competition in the largest advertising pitch ever to take place in China, Mindshare has been appointed the media agency of record for L’Oreal. L’Oreal is the world’s leading cosmetics company with USD $23 billion in global sales, and with a projected USD $2.5 billion media spend in China for 2010 (Source: CTR), is one of the largest advertisers in the country.

The decision effectively consolidates the entire brand portfolio in China, which includes iconic beauty brands L’Oreal Paris, Lancome, Maybelline New York and Kerastase.

“The growing prosperity in China has forever changed the way we consume media, view brands and judge products. As income increases, so do the number of people that will be placing a greater emphasis on quality. This is why it is so important for a brand like L’Oreal to become more sophisticated in the way they communicate and share information with their consumers”, said Melvyn Goh, President Mindshare China. “We are enormously pleased by this appointment, not only will we continue our partnership with such a great company, but we will also be able to cascade our best practices to the rest of the L’Oreal portfolio.”

Commenting on the win, Ashutosh Srivastava, CEO Mindshare Asia Pacific said, “Mindshare has long held the top position in China, yet the team there always fights for our clients with the passion and energy of an underdog. This appointment is a reflection of the hard work, commitment and dedication of the entire Mindshare China team. I am delighted that we will not only continue, but also greatly extend our relationship with L’Oreal. I am confident that L’Oreal has chosen the best agency and team for meeting future challenges.”

The transition of the business will begin immediately.
