Ogilvy wins first corporate ‘Leading Lights’ award

10 November, 2010

Honored by National MultiCultural Institute

WASHINGTON, DC  — Ogilvy & Mather North America was named the first corporate winner of the National Multicultural Institute’s (NMCI) “Leading Lights Diversity Award” at its Diversity Leadership Conference, now in its 12th year.

“What set Ogilvy apart from our other contenders was the partnerships it has formed with community organizations including Dress for Success, Ladders for Leaders and the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce of NY,” explained John Kirksey, President of NMCI. “Through these mutually beneficial partnerships Ogilvy is able to introduce diverse audiences to the advertising industry while bringing awareness to its employees of these groups’ activities and missions. This strengthens Ogilvy’s distinction as a leader within and beyond the advertising industry.”

The work Ogilvy is doing in seeding the next generation of multicultural talent within the work force through college and even high school programs was also distinctive to the review panel. It involves a wide array of internships and programs that work across industry, city and community groups. The agency’s multipronged diversity and inclusion strategy also includes an active employee engagement model that has driven culture change within the workplace through leadership accountability and an active group of professional networks.

“Donna Pedro has put in place a team and strategy that recognizes that diversity and inclusion is our competitive advantage,” said John Seifert, Chairman and CEO of Ogilvy & Mather North America. “I am thrilled to be her partner and we are honored by the NMCI’s award.”

Ogilvy was nominated to submit an entry to the awards program by FutureWork Institute, a leading global workplace consulting company. FutureWork has been a consultant to Ogilvy in helping it build its diversity and inclusion practice since 2005.

About NMCI Leading Lights
