The Brand Union is the new German partner of Cannes Design Lions

German office of global design and brand agency The Brand Union launches an exclusive partnership in the Design category

HAMBURG — Starting with immediate effect, design and brand agency The Brand Union is the national partner of the Cannes Lions in the Design category. It is the first time that the German festival representative Werbe.Weischer enters into exclusive cooperation for the design category – just in time for the third Cannes Design Lions award on June 23.

“The International Advertising Festival in Cannes is beyond doubt the most important festival worldwide. Here the trends are set that have an essential impact on our work and our communication. Over the past three years we have seen an increasing amount of outstanding work in the design category. We are therefore very proud to be the national partner of the Design Lions, because our agency also stands for outstanding creativity, internationality, and forward-thinking”, says Alexander Schubert, CEO for The Brand Union, Hamburg.

The German festival representative Florian Weischer, Director at Weischer.Mediengruppe, is also looking forward to the cooperation. “We welcome The Brand Union as one of the most noted design agencies worldwide on board the national Cannes Lions festival. We firmly believe that the agency will make the category stronger in Germany and that they will make the festival more popular – especially among designers.”

In order to improve the awareness level of the festival in the field of design, The Brand Union plans different events for the upcoming months: A national Design Lions Talent Competition, an exhibition of the Design Lions, plus a design convention. The aim of The Brand Union is also to build a relationship with design, marketing and communication communities. Projects with education facilities as well as design academies and colleges are in the planning stages.

In 2010 German agencies submitted 155 works for the Design category. This is 12% more than the last year. Prof. Joachim Sauter from the agency art+com Berlin will be the German member of this year’s international Design Lions Jury starting next week. Since implementation of the Design Lions in Cannes two years ago the agencies from Germany are among the most successful ones worldwide (2008: 8 Cannes Lions, 2009: 12 Cannes Lions). In both years they came first in the national ranking.
