LONDON — Ogilvy & Mather today announced the appointment of Russell Davies as Head of Planning for Ogilvy & Mather for Europe, Africa and the Middle East. He will oversee Planning across the region and work on key accounts.

Davies is one of the most influential Planners in the world. He has worked at Nike as Global Consumer Planning Director in Oregon. He had a key role in Honda’s “Power of Dreams” campaign and the celebrated “Cog” commercial.

He is a frequent speaker and writer. His blog, “As Disappointed as Your Are,” is one of the most read in the industry. He also writes a weekly column for Campaign magazine and for Wired UK.

Davies’ hire follows the recruitment of other leading planners and strategists to Ogilvy over the past year including Ben Richards who joined the agency from Naked as Worldwide Head of Strategy & Integration, Rachel Harran, new Head of Planning for Ogilvy London who came from BBH London, Colin Drummond who joined as Head of Planning for Ogilvy & Mather West from Crispin Porter + Bogusky and Tim Maleeny who joined as Head of Planning in NY from Hal Riney. Davies will succeed John Shaw, who is to leave the agency in the Autumn to become Strategy and Planning Partner at Rapier.

Daniel Sicouri, Chairman of Ogilvy & Mather, Europe, Africa and Middle East welcomed Davies to the agency by noting: “Russell is deeply networked into the Planning community across this region. I know that he will be a magnet for talent and an inspirational leader”.

Hugh Baillie, Chief Executive of the Ogilvy Group in the UK added: “Clients are looking to agencies to help them navigate the new communications landscape. Who better to help them than Russell?”

Colin Mitchell, Worldwide Head of Planning for Ogilvy, said: “I’m sorry to see John go, but welcome Russell to our Planning community. He will help us in our mission to make it the best in the world.”
