MEC China scoops Mercedes-Benz China’s digital business

, a leading media agency, today announced that it has been awarded Mercedes-Benz China’s digital buying business, effective July 10th 2010. MEC China has handled Mercedes-Benz China account for over 4 years.
The digital scope of work spans all China markets and includes all display advertising, social media and search engine marketing buying. The account was moved to MEC from Energy Source, without a pitch.
Michelle Yang, general manager MEC Beijing said; ‘Digital is playing an increasingly important role in Mercedes’ overall communications mix. With planning, digital planning and buying already consolidated into MEC and with integration a key driver for the future, the addition of the digital buying business will enable the agency to provide joined up communications solutions, across all Paid Owned and Earned channels and platforms.’
Klaus Maier, president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz China recently said that the automaker's June sales in China could be its best ever. Sales in the first six months could increase by over 100 per cent from a year earlier. Mercedes-Benz sold 46,100 units from January to May - an increase of 111 per cent year-on-year.
