Rui Branquinho named new Creative Vice-President of Young & Rubicam Brazil

Marcos Quintela concludes his first year as President of the agency with 15% growth, two new clients - Ponto Frio and Elo - and completes the company's restructuring.

One of the most distinguished creative professionals of the Brazilian market, Rui Branquinho has been appointed to Creative Vice-President of Young & Rubicam Brazil, which has held its #1 ranking in the market for agencies rank for the past 8 consecutive years, according to Ibope-Monitor.

Former Creative and Planning co-president at W/ (W/Brasil), Branquinho is one of the most talented creatives in Brazil. He starts at Y&R with the challenge to strengthen the agency’s creative leadership, which has already gained recognition for creativity that drives marketplace result. According to Marcos Quintela, "Besides being one of the most talented creative professionals in the country, Branquinho carries successful experiences in the management of creative processes with the Branding and Planning areas.

In a partnership with the team of leaders comprised of creative directors Alexandre Vilela (Xã), Felipe Gall, Jorge Iervolino, Mariangela Silvani, Sergio Fonseca (Magrão) and Wilson Mateos and by Design Creative director Paulo Labriola, and BLT Creation director Alexandre Arakawa, Branquinho will lead a team of 70 professionals in the Y&R operation in Sao Paulo. “It was irresistible to find Y&R Brazil’s commitment to innovation and creative leadership,” said Branquinho.

Branquinho’s appointment completes the restructuring of the agency that began a year ago with the appointment of Marcos Quintela. In the first quarter of 2010, Walter Longo became the Innovation and Strategy VP. Sylvia Panico and David Laloum were promoted to Executive VP and Planning VP positions, respectively.

During the year, Quintela has also led the redesign of the operational structure of the agency in São Caetano do Sul which is in charge of Casas Bahia, one of the biggest and instantly recognisable brands in Brazil today, and Ponto Frio accounts. “The agency is already such a major force in our market But we believe that the drive for creative leadership that is taking place around the entire Y&R network under Global Chief Creative Officer Tony Granger, will benefit our clients even more in the marketplace,” he added.

In this year, the agency has grown 15% over a year ago, and has acquired two important new clients: Ponto Frio and Cartões Elo, a new Brazilian credit card brand . According to Quintela, this result comes from the expansion of business within the current clients, since it doesn't consider the movements from the new accounts - Ponto Frio and Elo. On the expectations for the next year, the executive intends to "keep on working hard with lots of commitment, creativity, energy and drive in doing our best for our clients"


About Rui Branquinho
Born in Mozambique, Rui Branquinho came to Brazil when he was four years old. Graduated from Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing (ESPM). He started his career at DPZ and, after a brief period at Y&R, opened in 2000 his own agency (Cápsula) that after a short period became TBWA/Capsula. Then, Rui worked at W/Brasil (currently W/McCann) where he started as a copy writer and, seven years later, became co-president of Creation and Planning. In 2001, Branquinho also developed several projects to Globo.com, one of which was Papparazo, a popular website that is the leader in terms of ratings.

During his career, Branquinho has been awarded in the most important national and international festivals such as Cannes, Clio, NY and London. In 2007, he was elected Caboré's Creative Professional of the Year.
