Schematic tapped by Reliant Energy to lead next generation initiatives

9 March, 2009

AUSTIN – Schematic, a WPP Digital company, announced today its selection by Reliant Energy to develop and implement the Houston power company’s next generation interactive initiatives as Digital Agency of Record. Run out of the firm’s Austin office, the Reliant account marks Schematic’s entry into the energy category and leverages the agency’s deep expertise in user interface design, application development and large-scale technology integration to deliver a custom made solution for Reliant’s fast-growing audience of energy conscious consumers.

For the Reliant account, Schematic has been tapped to develop a multi-platform digital program that allows customers to better manage their energy usage with a suite of powerful, yet intuitive and easy-to-use online tools. The initiative encompasses technology application design and Website development with the goal of empowering customers to be smarter and more informed energy users. Schematic will also create an overall branding campaign for Reliant including message development, interactive advertising, social media outreach and strategic partnerships, and will collaborate closely with Reliant’s traditional media and marketing agencies.

“Consumers are increasingly aware of the major impact their energy choices have. Not just on their bills at the end of the month, but on critical macroeconomic and international policy issues,” said Trevor Kaufman CEO of Schematic. “By providing a digital solution that combines a more transparent accounting of energy usage with tools to manage power consumption, energy companies can satisfy consumer demand for energy conscious choices while simultaneously building stronger relationships with their customers. We are excited to be one of the first digital agencies to break into the energy category with our work for Reliant and believe that their customers are going to be blown away by the new capabilities.”

The Reliant initiative builds upon Schematic’s successful 2008, in which the firm rang up record revenues and introduced groundbreaking initiatives for clients including NBC Universal, Turner, Microsoft and Target.

“With a reputation for providing superior customer service and flexible, value-based pricing, Reliant has built its success on a user-focused model that places a premium on consumer experience,” said Marc Swearengin, general manager of Schematic’s Austin office. “We are pleased to have been selected to recreate that experience on an interactive level and look forward to developing a digital platform that allows Reliant’s customers to manage their energy usage more effectively than ever before.”

Known for its innovative work with the world’s largest companies including Comcast, Disney,
Panasonic, General Electric and Coca-Cola, Schematic continues to broaden its services and client base in 2009. Among last year’s agency successes were the creation of the interactive video player for NBCOlympics.com, which delivered eight million hours of TV-quality coverage from the Beijing Olympics to more than 42 million unique online sports fans, and the creation of the South Park Studios Web site, which offers easy access to every South Park episode ever aired.
