Landor wins "Best of the World" Wolda ’08 Award
30 September, 2008
The One Degree logo, designed by Landor Associates’ Sydney office, was named the world’s best logo in the inaugural edition of Wolda. Wolda, the Worldwide Logo Design Annual, rewards the best logos and trademarks designed throughout the world and is the only award scheme in the world endorsed by Icograda (International Council of Graphic Design Associations) and more than 100 other international design associations and schools.
Thanks to its originality and design excellence, the One Degree logo - designed for News Limited’s climate change initiative by Jason Little, Mike Staniford, Tim Warren and Steve Clarke - was selected as overall winner of Wolda ‘08, taking out Best of the World, Best of Continent (Oceania) and Best of Nation (Australia). It was awarded the top spot amongst almost 1100 entries received from 43 countries.
To select the winner, an innovative international three-tier jury consisting of ten top design professionals, ten major international clients and finally ten members of the public, reviewed all the logos submitted following a unique process which reflects the actual process that turns any logo into a successful logo: the designers decide what to present to the clients, the clients decide what to present to the public, but in the end it is the public that decides if a brand is successful.
The 30 judges were selected respectively from Icograda, Aquent and Consumers International. All winning entries for Wolda ’08 are displayed online at www.wolda.org and will be published towards the end of December in the 2008 annual.
Landor’s branding and design work with News Limited’s One Degree brand has been recognised in a number of international awards programs including the American Design Awards, Communication Arts, AIGA 365, One Show, Design Week Awards, ZGRAF 10 and D&AD.For more information

In 2007, Rupert Murdoch laid down the challenge for News Limited and its associated global
businesses to become carbon neutral by 2010. The challenge was to create a brand that would materially help drive employee, supplier and public action on climate change. One Degree has been developed on a simple premise: that if everyone were to change their behavior by just one degree, we can change the future of the planet. The logo combines both the number and the degree symbol, which together represent a person. In doing so, it neatly encapsulates the real impact that an individual can start to make in addressing climate change.About Landor
