David Lang named president of MindShare Entertainment

Emmy-award winning producer David Lang today was named president of MindShare Entertainment as one of several moves designed to reflect the growing role branded entertainment and other forms of intellectual property will play in the media service agency’s long-term development.

The changes were announced by MindShare North American CEO Scott Neslund and Peter Tortorici, president of GroupM Entertainment, a division of MindShare parent GroupM.

"We’re increasing David’s overall role at the agency to show that content development is going to become a cornerstone of all MindShare activities in the future," said Neslund, adding that Lang, currently director of programming for MindShare Entertainment, is also being named to the agency’s North American Management Committee. "These moves also recognize and reward the great work David and his group is doing for our agency and our clients."

Tortorici added: "David and his team have provided breakthrough creative entertainment solutions for our clients at a level of quality that has become the industry standard. Their enhanced capabilities will ensure that they will maintain and exceed their own high standards."

In addition to Lang, the other MindShare Entertainment staff changes include the following:

• MindShare Senior Partner and Strategic Planning Director Steven Piluso is joining Lang’s team in the new position of Director of Content Strategy

• MindShare Entertainment Producer Gregory Manago is being promoted to Supervising Producer

• Freelancer producer Lindsay Gravin is joining the unit as a Producer.

Lang, who joined MindShare Entertainment in 2005, said: "It takes a great team to produce great work and these moves will help us create more innovative and effective content for our client’s brands. The addition of Steve, combined with Greg and Lindsay’s promotions, gives us a new depth and breadth that lifts our unit to a whole new level."

MindShare Entertainment was created in 2003, shortly after Tortorici, a network television veteran, formed a partnership with MindShare to develop and produce network television programs in association with multiple corporate clients and sponsors. Tortorici served as president of the division and hired Lang in 2005 before being named president of the branded entertainment unit of GroupM, a WPP division encompassing all four of the company’s media services operating units: MAXUS, MediaCom, Mediaedge:cia, and MindShare.

Since 2005, MindShare Entertainment has created award-winning projects including "In the Motherhood," a multi-platform entertainment program for moms featuring user-inspired content starring actress Leah Remini that was sponsored by Unilever’s Suave brand and Sprint. Another initiative was "The Rookie," a web-based series inspired by Fox TV’s smash hit franchise "24" for Unilever’s Degree deodorant. Previously, the unit produced a series of groundbreaking webisodes for Unilever’s Dove Calming Night starring Felicity Huffman and directed by Penny Marshall, and a prime time TV special called "Exposing the Order of the Serpentine," which served as the centerpiece of a new product launch under Unilever’s Axe brand.

Lang joined MindShare Entertainment in March of 2005 after working as senior VP of Development and Production at Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video. Previously, he was a producer on the Rosie O’Donnell Show, where he won his Emmy. He also worked at Al Burton Productions as a Development Consultant and Director of Communications.
