JWT wins Vodafone assignment
14 May, 2002
J.Walter Thompson has been appointed by Vodafone as its new global advertising agency network. JWT will be responsible for advertising strategy and execution across the territories in which Vodafone has a majority shareholding.
Vodafone has now successfully migrated 14 of its 16 subsidiary network operations across the world to the single Vodafone brand. In line with other global brands, Vodafone is seeking to consolidate its resources and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of its branding through the appointment of JWT.
Following a formal review, JWT was chosen for its proven track record in developing and communicating global brands. As Vodafone’s global network agency, JWT will provide the strategy and advertising materials for Vodafone’s global brand campaigns. Wieden & Kennedy, appointed in May 2001, remains the global creative agency for Vodafone. The appointment of JWT will be fully implemented by the end of the year.
Thomas Geitner, Chief Executive, Global Products and Services at Vodafone, said "We have made tremendous progress in building a single brand. Our customers now know that wherever they see the Vodafone brand they will be able to receive their mobile services. We need to build upon our achievements and continue to invest in our brand. Our migration to a single Vodafone brand has created a common communications platform across our subsidiaries, ensuring operational benefits and clear communication to our customers. JWT’s appointment will ensure consistency of brand positioning as we introduce new mobile data services."
Michael Maedel, Chief Executive and President and JWT Europe, Middle East and Africa who led the Vodafone pitch for JWT, said, "This is a very exciting and big win for us. We are thrilled to have won this brand and to partner a global leader in the one of the most challenging market sectors in business today."
